The project's main objective is to create, test and implement a system to certify and award an ecological seal to those tourist transport operations in the Galapagos Islands that comply with a set of environmental and social standards.

Secondary Objectives

  • Coordinate environmental education activities and mechanisms for national and international distribution of information -- including awareness campaigns -- which deal with the importance of protecting the natural resources of the Galapagos Islands.

  • Promote the participation of tourism companies in conservation activities that benefit the Galapagos' natural resources, and the implementation of environmental norms in their tourist operations.

  • Procure economic resources that could allow the fulfillment of conservation activities in this region.

  • Motivate institutional interest on the part of the Ministry of the Environment, PNUD and GEF to execute programs and projects and to establish the mechanisms for preservation and control over the use of the natural resources.

  • Organize and increment the interest on the part of the private industry at large to implement concrete actions that support the conservation of natural resources in the Galapagos.
