Guidelines for Applicants
Program Focus:
Catalyst Grants of $3,000 or less are awarded to locally-based grassroots conservation groups that need a quick infusion of funds to advance a specific project or meet an unexpected need.
The Rainforest Alliance is committed to the protection of biologically rich ecosystems and the communities that depend upon them. The Alliance supports projects that encourage responsible land-use, consumer/community education and sustainable business practices. Applicants are strongly encouraged to address the organization's or project's impact on tropical forests and biodiversity.
Grants are generally not provided to students, researchers or organizations located outside of the project community. Catalyst Grants do not fund study-abroad programs, undergraduate or graduate research projects or conference attendance. Research carried out in cooperation with a local environmental organization may be eligible for support.
Requirements:
Applicants should be able to demonstrate that:

Any conservation project that will have an impact on communities, will both economically and ecologically benefit residents even after the project is completed;

| 2. |
The organization is based locally and will be able to maintain contact with the community after completion of the project;
|
| 3. |
The project is feasible and realistic given the organization's size, structure, and access to necessary resources;
|
| 4. |
The necessary infrastructure for successful completion of the project is in place (this includes management, equipment, expertise, etc.);
|
| 5. |
The organization is pursuing or has already obtained any additional funding needed to undertake the project; and/or
|
| 6. |
The organization requires immediate funding -- for which traditional funding options may not be appropriate.

Selection Process:
A committee of Rainforest Alliance staff and board members review all Catalyst Grant applications. Upon receipt of your application, program staff will notify you of when your application will be considered. Every effort is made to respond to all applications within 2 weeks of receiving the completed application form.
