Cmeinel: Hi. MeinelFan: are you really carolyn? Cmeinel: Yes. I'm online making travel reservations. AOL is great for that. MeinelFan: too cool! MeinelFan: where are you travelling to? Cmeinel: Sheesh, I'm not a hacker genius or anything. Big deal. Cmeinel: I'm going to Washington DC for the Satellite 98 conference. Cmeinel: So who are you? MeinelFan: well, you're obviously not a genius MeinelFan: but still MeinelFan: when is the next GTMHH coming out? Cmeinel: He, he, like to give me a hard time, huh? You're supposed to say "but of course you're a ganius":) MeinelFan: oh.. woops Cmeinel: Next GTMHH is coming out when I'm not overworked, will be on the hacker Fatal Error, then one on Perl. MeinelFan: i saw your webpage, that's what let me know what your account name is MeinelFan: i didn't even know you had an aol account MeinelFan: what the heck happened?!? Cmeinel: Which Web page was that? MeinelFan: the one that got changed MeinelFan: had some numbers on it MeinelFan: 303 or something Cmeinel: Oh. That was because AOL passwords don't recognize characters that are not numbers or letter, but they don't tell you that and the password sequence doesn't give an error message. But Unix passwords do allow other characters adn are stronger if you use them. Cmeinel: 303 is Brain Martin's gang. Did you see the joke Web page I put up about their hack? MeinelFan: umm.. that doesn't quite explain it.. i don't think.. i meant, why would someone do that to you? and how? I thought aol was secure Cmeinel: Oops, that's Brian Martin, not "Brain":) Cmeinel: Why do it? Because they are mad at me for teaching newbies. MeinelFan: do you think it's right to spurt out someone's name like that? i mean, do you really have proof it was him? MeinelFan: well, i'm glad you teach newbies! i know it helps me.. can you include that hacker tip on finger'ing again? i lost it, and i can't figure it out :( Cmeinel: Sheesh, if he doesn't like the hacked Web page, he can tell people 303 didn't really do. But instead 303 posted it at their Web site, 303.org. Cmeinel: So if they want to make a big deal of the hack, they can take th heat for doing it. Cmeinel: If you want all the archives, see http://techbroker.com/happyhacker.html MeinelFan: oh.. Cmeinel: Anyhow, I have to get back to work. Nice to meet you. I'm flattered by your screen name. MeinelFan: well, is Brian 303's king or something? Cmeinel: They worship the ground he walks on. MeinelFan: they do? why? Cmeinel: because he teaches them things. MeinelFan: does he teach you things too? Cmeinel: Anyhow, got to go now. MeinelFan: I thought 303.org wasn't even run by brian MeinelFan: seems to me that you've made a horrendous mistake Cmeinel: He lieks to keep his identity secret. I outed him when he started spreading around my SS# etc. MeinelFan: bad judgement in character and all Cmeinel: Sorry, but if someone wants to put out that info on me, they are just going to have to face reality -- their info is easy to get. MeinelFan: but, i saw the webpage, he didn't say anything about it on there MeinelFan: don't you think that spreading his info is going to give him a bad reputation? MeinelFan: i presume he has a job, if he is old enough Cmeinel: If he wants a good reputation he can straighten out his life. That is the best way. MeinelFan: what is wrong with his life? Cmeinel: It is not my job to shelter people from the consequenbces of bad behavior. MeinelFan: well, i'm not trying to defend him exactly, but like i said, you don't know that he did it Cmeinel: Sorry, I''m against crime and will never back down on this nbelief. MeinelFan: well, writing something, and doing something is entirely different Cmeinel: By now, and please think carefully about what it is that makes a good life. MeinelFan: we have no right to judge what makes a good life MeinelFan: that should be done by a persons god if they believe in one, or by themselves, if they don't.. not anyone else tho MeinelFan: i used to think you were a good person, but you've lowered yourself to the measures that 'hackers' use..
