[This was also posted to dc-stuff mail list.] From Cmeinel@aol.com Thu Jan 15 17:03:08 1998 From: Cmeinel To: jericho@dimensional.com Date: Thu, 15 Jan 1998 18:51:45 EST Subject: Re: OWNED!!!! (fwd) For immediate release Albuquerque, 15 Jan. 1998 -- The hacker world is in turmoil today as their anguished leaders debate what to do about today^Òs alleged attack by ezine humor columnist Carolyn Meinel. It began with an early morning post to the dc-stuff hackers^Ò email list from famed uberhacker Dark Knight: ^ÓCAROLYN MEINEL YOUR OWNED!!!! Yes check it out friends here AOL page got hacked well hacking AOL is not a hack I would think worth calling it a hacked but it adds a new hacked webpage for 1998 http://members.aol.com/haxorchick/index.html^Ô Hundreds of readers rushed to the page hoping to see yet another Web paged defaced with an ungrammatical, perhaps obscene manifesto. In fact, an handful did see a Web page that threw in a white power twist: a picture of a junk car up on blocks with the headline ^ÓGot coons?^Ô The page gave credit for the hack to the Denver-based TACD and 303 gangs, and directed the readers to their Web page, http://www.tacd.com/. That site claimed to belong to a gang that knows how to break into AOL accounts. However, the majority of the hackers who surfed over to the haxorchick Web site were dismayed to discover it made fun of Brian Martin. Since he had posted Meinel^Òs Social Security number, home address and phone to a hacker email list, and widely advertised the fact that his public ftp site was offering six months worth of email to and from Meinel, some hackers were quick to accuse Meinel of creating that page. ^ÓDoesn^Òt that !#$%^^ woman know proper etiquette for getting hacked?^Ô fumed someone styling himself ^Ópill^Ô of the TACD gang that allegedly hacked Meinel^Òs AOL account. ^ÓShe^Òs supposed to be wounded, just terribly wounded -- not make fun of us!^Ô ^ÓI am not a crook,^Ô announced Brian Martin. ^ÓFurthermore, TACD and 303 and me are just good friends. I^Òm wounded, just terribly wounded, that anyone would take what I wrote in F.U.C.K. #404 (http://dimensional.com/~jericho)about trying to ^Ñunify the hacker scene^Ò seriously. And I was just funning at Def Con V when I introduced Meinel and her friends to the 303 d00dz as my gang. All I do is just hang out on IRC and email lists and make prank phone calls. Nosirree, I would never have anything to do with TACD^Òs lame AOL hacking.^Ô ^ÓThat woman is dangerous,^Ô asserted Global kOS (pronounced ^Óchaos^Ô) spokesman Modify. ^ÓNext thing you know, she^Òll be sending out fake press releases. Everyone knows it^Òs in the US Constitution that only hackers get to send out fake press releases. We^Òll sue!^Ô As the anguishing watershed day of Jan. 15, 1998 drew to a close, hackers were raising money for a legal fund to attempt to sue Meinel into submission. ^ÓHacking her AOL account was a super ^Ñleet ^Ñsploit,^Ô asserted ^ÓJohn. Q. Public,^Ô emailing from an account cryptically named obscure.sekurity.org, ^Óbut the !@#$$%^ just doesn^Òt understand that she^Òs supposed to go cry herself to sleep. However, we got out the Yellow pages and phoned this lawyer who promises he can make her stop funning on us. We^Òre going to give him lots and lots of money and get rid of the Meinel menace for once and for all.^Ô # # # For more information, contact Eve Selene, 505-281-9675. Honest, this is a real press release. This is on the Internet, and as everyone knows, everything on the Internet is true, especially if hackers write it!!!!
