Internet Security Systems' X-Force is tracking hacker activity, has notified customers and raised its current threat level to AlertCon 2 due to an upcoming event known as The Defacers Challenge [TDC], an organized Web defacement event that encourages hackers to compete against each other while defacing Web sites for recognition and prizes. http://www.defacers-challenge.com/ Overview: The contest awards points to hackers that successfully compromise of an organization's Web server and deface its Web pages. Point values are based on the operating systems hacked and defaced. HP-UX, Apple, and IBM-AIX are worth more points due to their limited exposure as Web-hosting platforms, and because they are targeted less often than Microsoft and Linux operating systems. Impact: X-Force analysts are monitoring the hacking challenge to determine how this contest will affect the Internet. Due to the large scope of the contest, normal Internet activity could be disrupted. Web pages that become defaced are not accessible to Internet users surfing the Web.
