 Making The Parachute
There are lots of ways to make a parachute:

#1

  • Cut a circle of plastic about 30 inches in diameter.
I used a large garbage bag which I cut open and then I used the lid from a round trash can as a guide to cut the plastic into a circle.

  • Punch 8 holes around the edge of the plastic circle.
To make the parachute stronger, first put some scotch tape on the plastic where you plan to punch the holes.
  • Tie 18 inch pieces of string to the plastic circle.
Try and make each piece the same length. Tie all eight pieces together where the cargo hold will be attached.
  • I used a piece of sponge for the cargo hold.
Cut a little hollow in the sponge so that the egg can balance in it.
  • Now go and test it out !!
(You may also need some cleaning materials to wipe up any mess)
When an object falls from a great height it picks up speed, but the resistance of air finally causes it to fall at a steady speed. The large surface of a parachute acts as an air brake, checking the velocity of the person or object attached and making it possible for a safe landing.
