The Enlightenment Project: Past, Present, and Future

In the Beginning
In the beginning there were twm, and fvwm, and fvwm2. In terms of a window manager, those were your basic choices. Frustrated with their lack of flexibility and visual appeal, Carsten Haitzler (a.k.a. "Rasterman") started down the path that would lead to the creation of the Enlightenment window manager.

Linux NetworX to Unveil First and Only Vertical Rackmount Chassis Design for Clu
Posted by God on Thursday, August 10 @ 09:54:00 PDT (readed: 1 times - hits: 0)

Go vertical! You won't want to miss a trip to the Linux NetworX booth (No. 3038) at the LinuxWorld tradeshow Aug. 15-17 in San Jose, Calif., where the company will unveil the industry's first and only vertical rackmount chassis design for clusters. This new product, called Evolocity, will provide a more efficient alternative to the standard 19-inch chassis design used in many clustering applications. Following are just a few features of the new design: * One of the greatest benefits of the unique vertical design is that it runs significantly cooler than standard 1U and 2U systems. In fact, it runs more than 10 degrees Celsius cooler than 1U and 2U systems. * Because the system design reduces overheating risks, it also has the capacity to safely run more processors than traditional systems. Evolocity is the first in a number of innovations planned by Linux NetworX to bring the most powerful cluster technologies to customers.

BSD vs Linux The ISP's Side
Posted by God on Wednesday, August 09 @ 17:03:58 PDT (readed: 7 times - hits: 0)

Anonymous writes "I work currently for an ISP that has all mission critical servers running BSDi and everything else running FreeBSD. So I decided to ask why. The response was "BSDi is not opensource, an Linux is. anyone can look at the linux source and find the holes. BSDi runns about $2000/license but their is support, and no source code. And you dont have to re-install to upgrade, just load the modules."
I know of several companys who run mission critical servers with linux. And they have never had problems. But neither have we with the BSDi. So who knows??????????????????"
