1) Today's Focus: Floppy security - Part I
------------------------------------------
By Winn Schwartau

Sometimes you have to sit back and cogitate and ask yourself a few
questions. Involve your upper management and ask them the following
questions, too. See how it turns out. I've seen this exercise open
people's minds pretty quickly.

1. Are you a networked company? (Y/N)
2. Do you use print servers, file servers, Web servers and database
servers? Do you have them strewn throughout your organization to best
service the needs of your staff? (Y/N)
3. Do you want your employees playing games at work? (Y/N)
4. Do you want your employees doing personal computing projects during
the day on your time? (Y/N)
5. Do you want your staff bringing computer viruses into your networks?
(Y/N)
6. Do you want employees stealing proprietary data? (Y/N)

Obviously all of the answers would be yes. Then, why, oh why, do you
still have floppy disk drives in the desktop computers in your shop?
Think about that for a moment and in the next newsletter we will
examine this a bit more.

[I don't know about you, but I pesonally don't want my employees
3: playing games, 4: doing personal projects, 5: bringing computer viruses, or
6: stealing proprietary data. Of course, Mr. Schwartau thinks otherwise
since he says "Obviously all of the answers would be yes." Security expert?]
