Involve your upper management and ask them the following questions, too. See how it turns out. I've seen this exercise open people's minds pretty quickly. 1. Are you a networked company? (Y/N) 2. Do you use print servers, file servers, Web servers and database servers? Do you have them strewn throughout your organization to best service the needs of your staff? (Y/N) 3. Do you want your employees playing games at work? (Y/N) 4. Do you want your employees doing personal computing projects during the day on your time? (Y/N) 5. Do you want your staff bringing computer viruses into your networks? (Y/N) 6. Do you want employees stealing proprietary data? (Y/N) Obviously all of the answers would be yes. Then, why, oh why, do you still have floppy disk drives in the desktop computers in your shop? Think about that for a moment and in the next newsletter we will examine this a bit more. [I don't know about you, but I pesonally don't want my employees 3: playing games, 4: doing personal projects, 5: bringing computer viruses, or 6: stealing proprietary data. Of course, Mr. Schwartau thinks otherwise since he says "Obviously all of the answers would be yes."
